>>The Ultramagnetic MC’s - One To Grow On
^Nation, you got the wrong group for these two songs. These two songs are by the UMC’s. It’s off their album “Fruits of Nature”. UMC’s and the Ultramagnetic MC’s are two different groups.

July 10, 2007 at 1:25 pm
i noticed there was no pac, jay,or BIG, BUT the music was so DOPE I didn’t really care
July 10, 2007 at 1:33 pm
I admit I was a bit surprised that biggie wasn’t on the show but as someone put it before me: it’s NOT a top 40 nineties rap chart. It’s a tribute show and the man pulls out whatever felt right at that moment. Either way respect to the man for puttin that 90ies vibe on the air!
If we show some love instead he might just be back with another show that will include all the other classics
Now I’ll go dig out my old hot*97 flex tapes from 1994 and keep my head noddin.
thestrom, sweden
July 10, 2007 at 1:48 pm
you guys act like biggie didn’t get a whole day of love on hot 97, plus regular spins. mister cee holds biggie down like no other
these songs and the mind state that accompanies it are pretty much forgotten. thestrom… do you know how to convert that shit to mp3? a la stretch armstrong
July 10, 2007 at 2:31 pm
y’all faggots crying no biggie or pac or jay are fucking brainwashed. this is the 90’s shit that NO ONE PLAYS ANY MORE. i hear tribute sets of all those dudes every other fucking day and no one’s playing these joints. FALL THE FUCK BACK FOR ONE DAY.
for a dude like flex to put it out there on a platform like hot 97 is huge. he’s schooling new heads and reminiscing with the old heads.
fucking crybabies.
dudes like pac and big are already gods in this. lemme get my blue cheese on.
July 10, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Yeah, i thought about that but the quality is really crappy. tapes decay… I only pull them out when i have a serious craving for that old school flex cut-ups of beware of the rampsack, the what, loud hangover, that nuttin but love original etc
July 10, 2007 at 4:36 pm
51st!
July 11, 2007 at 6:16 am
Since I’m holding the late pass I won’t even say nuthin’ about the scenario remix.
Flex ain’t been good since the Daddy’s House days back at the Red Zone.
That was the 90’s.
Good shit on the heavy lifting(research).

i think it’s the Common joint that flex was looping all night
it must be the DJ Premier remix of Resurrection, because the second he threw it on, Rosenberg said shout to Large Pro but flex said i know Premier is feeling me (pause). i don’t know, if anyone has it… send it over
July 14, 2007 at 11:20 am

Well I’ve read all the comments… and damn sure been playing all the tracks in regular rotation since they originally dropped in the 90’s. I gotta give props where props are due. Flex really put in some work on the mix. And since it was never said to be the top 100 of the 90’s I gotta say, though I STILL feel like he talks way too much and has become the Frankie Crocker of Rap… He has to get mad props for being able to pull off a 5 hour 90’s mix WITHOUT resorting to the majority of the joints that would be found on the top 100 list.
Think about it this way… He pulled of a 5 hour Mix that is STILL getting mad props from around the world WITHOUT leaning on BIG, The Entire BAD BOY camp, JAY-Z, Snoop, Dre & The West Coast. Hell there was no Luke or even the Classic Funk Flex, DJ Kool, Fatman Scoop Party Drops and Breaks (C’mon baby, etc…
that helped set off EVERY Party in the 90’s.
For those of you who REALLY remember those times and have been partying and/or spinning since the 90’s or even before… You’ll have noticed that while he did play a lot of the hot artists from the time… he didn’t even try to stay in the top ten or favorite hits from them. Think about it… Gang Starr but no DWYCK. KRS-One but no Step into a World. The Alkaholiks but no Likwit. C’mon if you were paying attention and not looking for something to complain about or hate on you’d have picked up on that.
This mix was primarily underground classics… stuff that you may have heard at Daddy’s House, Kilamanjaro, Union Square, The Tunnel, or even the Palladium. This is the stuff that WAS getting some radio play but heard mostly in clubs or on Boom Boxes around the hood. Flex reminded a lot of us real DJ’s that… unlike today, .a lot more creativity & diversity were appreciated.
Now I will say that Flex is one of the reasons I stopped listening to radio. As a DJ I have difficulty hearing bombs dropped continuously on commercialized garbage. Being cosigned by someone who should know better. But fortunately because of the internet, i-Pods, the never ending open mics, showcases and cat’s rhyming to beat boxes on a lunchroom table… I know that real hip-hop will perservere. And that in 10 years… another set of DJ’s and music enthusiasts will be having this same discussion all over again.
Flex It’s nice to see you haven’t forgotten the basics and your foundation. Nation thank YOU for doing the heavy lifting and allowing some of these younger cats a chance to download some classics. For those of you who forgot… or maybe never knew… When this all started you had to carry a 50lbs of vinyl or more to achieve the mix and flow Flex pulled off. And that doesn’t include the OTHER hits that we KNOW had to be carried!!!
It wasn’t about downloads or ripping and burning CD’s. And though the game has changed… EVERY DJ should do some “heavy lifting” if you are ever going to be appreciated and respected in this biz. Let’s see if YOU can pull off a 5 hour mix that keeps everybody jumping and reminiscing without relying on your “Heavy Rotation” crate!
One Love,
Mischief

So when is someone gonna come with that Doo Wop joint… otherwise I’ll have to lift the piano break off the Flex radio rip….
June 12, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Whoa!! Flex gets ridiculous props for this set. Unbelievable!!!
I don’t understand the hate. Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac and 50 deserve their respect, but there’s a lot more to hip hop then those 4 artists.
The funny thing is that I don’t remember flex playing any of this stuff back in the 90’s. I only remember him playing MaryJ, Biggie, Zulu War Chant, DMX and stuff like that. So, I have a new found respect for flex.
