EDIT: Go vote for him as one of the best MC’s for Hot 97′s Real Late with Peter Rosenberg. If not him, then Sean Price.
Forget all that labeling shit, this guy is Jay Electronica. If I compared him to anything it was for you to listen. Listen closely though, because this guy is being co-signed by Just Blaze, Erykah Badu & John Brion. Before you dabble in downloading anything, give this a listen, so that you know what you’re getting into, and if you’re tiny mind can handle it all at once.
This is what Just Blaze & Erykah Badu had to say about dude. Plus the intro and some more nitty gritty raps known as Act I. Add on a few samples from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory which is pure genius. The beats are just too crazy to explain. This is the future. Nawlins stand up
Props to anyone who’ll claim he put me onto this guy, and to iFux, FWMJ & sweeneykovar for the song links and info. Shouts to Dem, HHF, eskay & cOLD, just for the fuck of it. Nawlins stand up

the handling of a heart’s a very delicate art cuz its paper thin
one irrelevant thought that started out as a spark
could be a poisonous dart that leaves a permanent mark
that’s ice cold in the day; it burns in the dark
and makes you never wanna see her face again
tee hee what a place i’m in, lead me to the station
a one way ticket, don’t look back,
one cold tear that frozen crack
a whole lot of pain i’m holdin back
chef said “F that, roll the sack”
i said, “if my skull was cracked, and blood ran out to the cul-de-sac
that could not match me where i’m at
my memories flash me there and back”
yep, there goes me right there and black
holding hands not staring back
she start’s crying, i start denying
that it’s my fault i’m aware of that man
in hindsight signs be glarin back,
wheres the map to show you where ya at
i could hear the cryinyelling i can smell the thai smoke
i can hear the starter pistol where’s the track
ring, no answer, came home late, jane told dick she had a date
but they’s just chillin, and at that moment, the right brain says to the left just kill em
make the headlines, make the frontpage
wild out in the courthouse man thrill em
they all say the boy dead wrong but i feel him
August 17, 2009 at 2:29 pm
voodooman chicken bone chicken bone
i can make a thunderstorm from a light rain
my ears start ringin, my nose get bloody,
i feel a little bit of pressure on my right brain
intermission transmission put me in submission
glistening trapped in a light prison whistlin
christ told me come closer to the light, man
i went blind woke up in front of a mic stand
voodoo man tap dancing in the french quarter
walking on water with a scroll in my hand
the blueprints for a disc-shaped like vessel that was
chisled out of metal off the coast of japan
fastened on the top of a mountain out the post land
saw a shiny object floatin out of the ocean
i’m sort of like a post-man you can get the message
if you wanna understand from the rap singer man
voodoo man civilized and savage
criticized the parish spreading false doctrine
terrorize the cleric for carrying on nonsense
specialized lies to paralyze the conscience
voodooman chit chatter abracadabra
spittin out matter while i’m shittin out data
mmm chew em up shitting out rappers
sippin pellegrino while i’m giving out matches
set your self on fire let the wisdom of elijah purify ya take a nigga higher
sold your soul to the highest buyer now you
on the wire talkin about two foot tires
sayin you sell crack, clappin at cats with macks
but you a liar, pants on fire
same old rugged cross, different crucified messiah

For that fact, people who can rhyme if they want to lay it down on paper and leave em drying in shoeboxes, those who believe there’s a message in their rhymes expose it to the soakers.
I’m a fan of good shoes and my socks always end up in the washing machine.
Dude can rhyme, yes. But who of men who went to the ends of the earth either in morale, spirituality or social mingling and has academic credits can’t?
Damn i miss my shoeboxes

I’m not gonna front. First time I heard the name Jay Electronica, I kinda brushed it off and didn’t check for it AT ALL. I just thought of some wack cat in some Bapes or some colorful dunks and a printed hoodie trying to be different, riding the Lupe Bandwagon.
But first time I heard his music, shit literally blew my mind. This is pure unadulterated sickness. He’s kinda disgusting with it. LIstening to it, I was making that face like I smelled something bad cuz it was just so nasty. I’m almost positive this dude is gonna be around for a minute. I know greatness when I hear it; always have as I been listening to rap since it started. And this is truly great. This motherfucker said…he fuckin said… ‘I never got shook up by talks of Illuminati, i’m from where n***** talk that talk, and walk around the streets all day carrying heat like the human body. Stress we mastered that, death we laugh at that, yall n***** sweater than a cognac, i never sleep and when my eyes is closed, and i’m in a deep battle for sheep i’m an insomniac, and when it comes to the rhymes, a hypocondriac, the flow so sickly…..
Yeah, he’s sick alrite. He needs professional help.

Jay Electronica does have a myspace (http://myspace.com/jayelectronica); however, the page doesn’t currently have any music on it. In the past, the website was very nostalgic/tripped-out with crazy audio and visual. Considering he has a song/video called DMT, I wouldn’t be suprised to hear and see alot more crazy good stuff from him. I’m hoping there will be a DVD in the future. He is a very good artist, musically and visually; maybe he’s a triple-threat, just don’t know what his other talent is–living? Like Erykah says, “he’s like an alien or something, but in a very beautiful way.”

[...] But the thing that hit me the most was “The Pledge”, his four act epic, which loops Jon Brion’s score for Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind. Crazy to hear this, ’cause it’s so fearless and earnest (even if embarrassingly so, on Act III: Voodoo Man); and crazy personally, ’cause that score had been on heavy rotation for me, a few years earlier. Technically, this may be ‘07 – but I bet you hadn’t heard it then. Looking forward to a record, if he ever puts one out. ‘Til then, you can find his tracks here. [...]
