UPDATE: The Official Track List
The American Gangster track list according to the iTunes Music Store:
1. Amen
2. Blue Magic
3. Untitled
4. Alright, Alright
5. You Don’t Know
6. And The Winner Is
7. American Gangster (Featuring T.I.)
8. Welcome
9. Ignorant Shit
10. The Demise
11. I Get Money (Remix)
What’s weird is the I Get Money remix being on there… but heck, if anyone should cake off of that, it’s Jay. Also, Ignorant Shit being on there is a few years misplaced, but it still fits the feel of the album. And how many U Don’t Know/Don’t You Knows can one man make… we get it, you know something we don’t about you know who doing you know what to you know who. T.I. being on the title track makes sense too… but there’s no sight of No Hook, Vietnam War (feat. Kanye West) or The Return (feat. Nas).
Speaking of the Little Homey, did he fall on his head dropping again and on the same day as Jay? Okay, I get that Def Jam figures 9/11 was a good move, and it was beneficial move Curtis & especially Kanye, but must we recall the real 9/11? Also, someone remind Nas that his Greatest Hits should be an EP, with at least a few new cuts.
Regardless, I can’t wait for the new Jay-Z album and I’m starting to warm up to the idea of Nas being an alright rapper… but somewhere, somehow… Joe Budden & LL Cool J lost. How many albums has Rihanna put out since Joe Budden dropped Gangsta Party?

Jay-Z is that dude… I’m glad he’s putting out new material
October 2, 2007 at 9:37 am |
also….didn’t jay already drop an american gangster mixtape w/ tapemasters inc?
http://www.bump-mag.com/2007/08/new-music-jay-z-american-gangster.html
jay clearly identifies with denzel quite a bit. i always wondered how he made the transition from skinny fast rappin hustler to grown man CEO. . ..now i know it was under the mentorship of denzel washington movies.
i betcha he used to make B call him ‘zel.
October 2, 2007 at 9:38 am |
i got a feeling…
hip-hop’s gonna lose on this album. there may be two drops on there at most.
October 2, 2007 at 10:13 am |
Nas stays losing
Good post
October 2, 2007 at 10:28 am |
You do know that Nas Greatest Hits is a Columbia release and it’s theirs, not Nas or Def Jam, who decide when to drop it according to the release agreement.

nm that tapemasters joint is just black album remixes.
got my dudes cookin’ soul on it though. those dudes throw down on the soulful beats…cf. nas ’2nd childhood’ ; mop ‘ante up’ ; et cetera qui maior quam eis aliquorum sunt

October 2, 2007 at 1:03 pm |
Nas being an alright rapper?? He’s a lot better than this guy ever was. And Jay deserves to cake off the I Get Money remix the least because, you know, he had the worst verse (Diddy’s was best).

dude, you owe me 2 g’s. made me spit apple juice all over my apple laptop. the hell you talking about diddy’s verse was the best on that ‘i get money’ remix… are u out of your diddy ass mind? and i should smack fire out your ass for making me call puff “diddy”…
wow, all this shit talking over the internet… i see how bol gets off on it. it’s great!
October 2, 2007 at 1:54 pm |
Alright, 50 was right ya’ll do pop shit for nothing, credibility will be ended with statements like Nas only have a few joints, I thought this was a real live hip hop site not just speaking for spoken word sake, darn it, every Nas album got bangers on their, from misplaced R&B joints to very intellectual joints, dont hate on NAS it is only showing your slip
October 2, 2007 at 2:02 pm |
the Nas hate is an inside joke
for every Jay-Z song i’ve listened to in the past few months, i’ve listen to 5-6 Nas joints… easy people
although… Jay-Z > Nas
October 2, 2007 at 2:30 pm |
50′s verse was off-beat, he kept switching up his flow every line, and Jay’s delivery sucked like it has the past two years. Diddy got a solid verse from his ghostwriter. I’ll also say, I enjoyed Press Play more than Graduation or Curtis and a WHOLE lot more than Kingdom Come.

^^^^^^
Are you serious blood? Even if Diddy’s verse was best, that muhfucka doesn’t write shit! Its prolly Monche’s verse.
Diddy has never wrote a song- take that shit to the house bruh
October 2, 2007 at 2:44 pm |
P. Diddy should have only been permitted to do ad-libs on this track. I could’ve written a better verse then the one he decided upon while comatose with a pen between my ass cheeks. I’m glad this song came out though because in this time of “The Glamorous” and all this lifestyles of the rich and shameless shit there needs to be a cap put on it. It’s a fact 99% of rappers are broke renting homes and vehicles as long as their budget permits them so lets take it back to the classic age where it was more than partying and bullshit…

maaan… This can’t be the real tracklist. I want at least 14 tracks. I get Money should be excluded in all seriouseness, I don’t want to hear 50 cent and Diddy on a great album like this. If Jay is really taking it back, to the dope rap, to something ala Reasonable Doubt then he needs to reevalute having I get Money on there. Apart from that song being mad old, by the time he releases the album there won’t be a person on the earth who doesn’t have the I get money remix. So it will just turn out to be skippable filler. Waste of space on the album.
Also I hope this isn’t going to be some timbo and Pharrell sounding album beat wise. I mean at least get Premo for on track. Again it doesn’t coincide with the “taking it back theme” when you have pharrell and timbo putting “those” type of beats on the album.
Also why bother putting that non-rapping fool TI on a bound to be classic Jay-z album? It’s a disgrace, Ti and classic, TI and skills, and TI and flow/lyrics are all oxymorons. Hov you have like 10 rappers on def jam that are 100x better than ti, shit put redman, budden, nas, or whoever. I don’t wanna hear TI on a taking it back album.

WO, WO THATS WAY TOO BIG OF A STATEMENT…NAS DIDNT GO POP BECAUSE HE KEPT HIS INTEGRITY UNLIKE JAY…PLUS JAY ADMITED IT ON ”MOMENT OF CLARITY”
JAY = VERY GOOD RAPPER (DON’T GET IT TWISTED)
NAS > JAY-Z
October 2, 2007 at 4:17 pm |
… but there’s no sight of No Hook, Vietnam War (feat. Kanye West) or The Return (feat. Nas).

AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaAAAAAAAHHH!!! IF THOSE 2 TRACKS WERE ON AMERICAN GANGSTER IT WOULD BE THE END TO ALL SO-CALLED ”CLASSIC” ALBUMS WE HEARD IN THE PAST 2 YEARS
PS: VIETNAM WAR FT. WEST AND NAS ON THE RETURN WOOOW!!

CO-SIGN!!! WOOW WHEN BLUE MAGIC CAME OUT, IT FELT LIKE CHANGE CLOTHES AGAIN WOOWW..JAY ALWAYS MESSES UP HIS ALBUMS WITH THE 1ST SINGLE..PLUS I READ ON DEFSOUNDS.COM THAT TIMBO IS DOIN THE 2ND SINGLE…AND THIS ALBUM IS REASONABLE DOUBT ORIENTED PFFF!!
PS:ITUNES IS MAD WRONG, THERES NO WAY THAT THIS IS THE TRUE TRACKLISTING AND RE-CO-SIGN ON PAPERSTACKER FOR THE FACT THAT JAY COULD PUT RED JOE OR NAS ON IT EXCEPT THAT T.I. WEIRDO

umm i doubt this is the official tracklist….but who knoes
October 4, 2007 at 1:16 pm |
This can’t be it… Jay wouldn’t put a remix on there like “I Get Money” if he’s trying to fit the movie. Also he was in the 40/40 last Saturday and debuted a new track called “Roc Boys” which is nowhere to be seen on this tracklist. He wouldn’t put “Ignorant Shit” on there because that’s not his style. The album is a concept album, and this shit follows no concept.

oh, and this is by no means the song that’s on the album. i made this post (by accident) days before i saw that Track List. it was only a fluke but you see the spinelessness of some of these internet cats
i just posted it for shits, and because i was thinking about 25th hour… a few days later the link had thousands of hits. if you use my links, why don’t you give a shout out. and I was definitely the person with the original link that everyone was passing around, because how else could someone upload a song they’ve had for years and claim it’s new. think about it
that wasn’t what i was trying to do, i was shocked at the number of people who hadn’t heard the No DJ version of this classic, so i posted it. wtv, i can go on and on, but i thought you losers deserved an expla-nation

The effortless and relevant rapping of Jay-Z has very much to do with owning a basket-ball team, being a major player in the world of Wall Street, continuing to keep ‘rap’ in line. The appeal of his music is that so much is unsaid you have to place that around what he’s saying while you’re listening to it. So he’s not just creating music, he’s not just owning more and more pieces of the world, he’s constructing puzzles that you have to disassemble and reassemble. Don’t worry you can still dance. Just hand in your homework, he did his.
